We offer both Beginning and Advanced Chorus at Frassati Catholic, which offers instruction on methods and techniques for developing one's voice, including good vocal health habits, applying correct breathing habits to improve one’s vocal flexibility and tone quality, using good diction, achieving excellent blend and balance within the ensemble, and utilizing proper phrasing and dynamics.
In addition, students learn introductory music theory, history, and sight reading. The students perform a wide variety of music from different genres, and perform in our annual Lessons and Carols service; the Texas Private School Music Educators Association All Region and All State Choruses, Solo & Ensemble Competitions, and Concert and Sight Singing competitions; as well as at various community events.
The Frassati Catholic Instrumental Ensemble focuses on exposing students to a range of musical styles and diverse experiences formative for young instrumentalists.
Ensemble music provides a platform for our musicians to engage in a close musical dialogue with other performers. We focus on developing collective musical instinct, experience, knowledge and skill that guide the process of interpreting, rehearsing, and performing.
Through the teaching of Social Dance, our students learn the basic techniques, concepts, skills, and step patterns of social dances of the 19th and 20th centuries. Students learn both solo and partner steps as well as techniques for leading and following in line, swing, and ballroom dancing. Though the focus of the class will be studio practice, students will also examine the socio-historical significance of social dance.
We offer both academic and extracurricular opportunities to explore theater and drama at Frassati Catholic. In Introduction to Theater, students study the background, framework and vocabulary for the appreciation of major areas of production (directing, acting, design, etc.) and the various historical, textual and performance elements that inform theatrical practice, focusing especially on those elements that influenced the culture of the time. Through the study of plays and production techniques, as well as attending live theater, our students are provided with a broad base of knowledge about the theater in its ability to influence culture and society.
Additionally, our Theater Guild club is active in providing opportunities for students interested in the theater arts, including acting workshops with the Alley Theater and the Frassati Catholic Variety Show.
In Music Appreciation, students trace the development of Western classical music from the medieval period to its influence in American popular music (jazz, rock, country, folk). Students are exposed to compositions by renowned composers and explore the interplay of society and politics in determining the compositions success. Music Appreciation is a course that is open to any student, so a musical background is not required.
The annual musical production has become a community favorite tradition here at Frassati Catholic High School.
While the show couldn't go on this year, we can look back fondly on the last four musicals and look forward to the musicals that will grace the Frassati Catholic stage in the years to come!
