The Board of Trustees, administration, faculty and staff of Frassati Catholic High School are proud to recognize the Class of 2019. We celebrated our third graduating class on Friday, May 24, with Baccalaureate Mass in the morning and an evening Commencement Ceremony. The Class of 2019 built a legacy that will live well beyond its time at Frassati Catholic. As the final class to join the school before all four grade levels were present, the Class of 2019 is a pioneering group that helped pave the way for the school we know today.
Frassati Catholic High School students Mariajose Celis ‘19 and Cristina Guzman ’20 never thought of themselves as change makers. The way they view it, they just saw the needs of others and were able to respond as they are called. This spring they were honored for answering that call when their project, “The Impact of Work: The Homeless are Willing,” was selected as a winner at the Incontro Romano conference. Incontro Romano, a platform of professionals and students which aims to highlight jobs where the direct care of the person is the principal focus, hosted their international conference in Rome this year on the theme, “The Transformative Power of Work.”
On Monday, May 13, the Frassati Catholic Community came together to acknowledge excellence in academics, athletics, and fine arts at the sixth annual Verso L’alto Summit Awards Ceremony. In addition to awards for these achievements among the whole student body, particular awards are given to members of the graduating class to recognize their achievements over their time at Frassati Catholic. These recognitions include announcing the Class of 2019 Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and conferring the Man and Woman of the Beatitudes, Virtuous Athlete, and Pier Giorgio Service awards.
Four Frassati Catholic students will be continuing their athletics careers in college. During the spring sports recognition night we hosted a ceremonial signing for our athletes who will play at the collegiate level and took some time to celebrate their accomplishments. Jennelle Edlin will play soccer for the University of St. Thomas, Clare Finney will play Lacrosse at Catholic University of America, JD Morgan will play football for Ave Maria University and Gabriel Weitzman will play football for University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Frassati Catholic community celebrated senior Brian Carroll immediately following weekly Mass last Friday as he was presented with the U.S. Army ROTC Four-Year Scholarship, an award which provides an $85,950 college scholarship over four years. Captain Keith Langhauser was the U.S. Army representative on hand to present the ceremonial check, and the entire student body erupted in applause as their classmate was honored. Brian Carroll plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall.
Congratulations to the 73 Frassati Catholic students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations. Students earned a total of 17 silver and 13 bronze medals along with 43 honorable mentions.
The Frassati Catholic Track and Field Team was represented by Izabella Vallejo at the TAPPS 5A State Championship Track Meet May 3-4 in Waco, TX. Vallejo, a Frassati Catholic junior, competed against the best of Texas 5A in two events: the 3200M and 800M. She took fifth place in both events.
Frassati Catholic Golfers competed at the TAPPS 5A State Championships on April 29-30. The golf team was represented by Irma Briz, Anna Claire Fincher, Ellie Fincher, Morgan Martinez and Katie Spartz of the girls team and Ethan Long from the boys team. The girls team finished third place overall, with Anna Claire Fincher finishing second individually and Ellie Fincher finishing fifth. The third place finish marks a tremendous accomplishment for the team, which started the season with a move from 3A to 5A level play.
Last Tuesday, April 29, six Frassati Catholic students were recognized for their exceptional entries in the University of St. Thomas Archdiocesan Essay Contest. In 59 schools across the Archdiocese, principals selected up to six students to submit essays on critical topics for young Catholics, including faith leadership, service and current events. Of the six Frassati Catholic entrants, five placed in the top three overall including two first place finishes, two second place finishes, one third place finish, and one recognition. We are incredibly proud of our student participants and their extraordinary efforts in the contest.
