The Frassati Catholic Track and Field Team had four competitors at the TAPPS 5A South Regional Track Meet at Bastrop Memorial Stadium in Cedar Creek on Thursday, April 25. All four athletes performed well, bringing home three medals from the event. Izabella Vallejo and Zamari Bruce will advance to finish their season at the State Championships in Waco, TX.
Early next week the Frassati Catholic Softball team will take on their next challenge – postseason play. After a regular season full of grit, determination and growth, the team will face the third place finishers from District 3 of San Antonio in a Bi-District playoff with the chance to advance to the Area and Regional playoffs. With a strong core and senior leadership, the team is looking forward to making their postseason debut and taking some strong play into their game next week.
On April 23, the Frassati Catholic Community welcomed a special guest; our district representative, Congressman Kevin Brady. In his first visit to campus, Congressman Brady spoke to the student body, held a Q&A session and took a tour of the Frassati Catholic facilities. His session included topics covering civil service and leadership, how to stay engaged in current events and what it’s like working in congress.
The Frassati Catholic Golf team competed at the TAPPS 5A South Regional Tournament at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, TX on Tuesday, April 23. The Girls team became Regional Champions, finishing first place overall with two top-five individual placements, and Ethan Long from the Boys team finished in the top ten. All Frassati Catholic golfers who competed in the South Regional Tournament will advance to the TAPPS 5A State Tournament, and this will mark the third consecutive trip to the State Championships for the Girls team.
Frassati Catholic Athletic Director Chris Meredith traveled to College Station on April 16 to speak with Sports Management Majors at Texas A&M University. His visit was coordinated by Alumnus JT Payne ’17, a current sophomore at Texas A&M and member of the Sports Management Society, an organization for Sports Management Majors. The organization holds monthly meetings and they frequently invite guest speakers to discuss their background and experience in the field of sports management. Mr. Meredith spoke about being an Athletic Director at the middle and high school level, and focused on his experience in private schools including creating two athletics programs from the beginning.
Frassati Catholic Alumnus Pablo Boada ’18 and the Christendom College Crusaders will compete for the National Small Schools Rugby Organization (NSCRO) 15s Rugby National Championship in Loudonville, NY, from April 26-28. The Crusaders are emerging contenders in the NSCRO 15s taking consecutive trips to the National Championships. They will face some of their stiffest competition to date in New York including No. 2 ranked Endicott College in the semifinal round with the winner taking on either St. John’s University or The Claremont Colleges in the April 28 Championship.
On Friday, April 12, the Frassati Catholic Theater Guild hosted the Inaugural Variety Show - a celebration of the talents of the Frassati Catholic Community. Members of the Theater Guild performed to nearly 300 members of the community, and the show was a huge success, complete with song, dance, comedy, magic and martial arts.
The Frassati Catholic Government and Debate Club attended the Texas Model UN State Assembly, April 12-14 at the Dallas Marriott in Plano, Texas. The three day, two night immersive conference, themed “Our Health is in Our Hands,” was hosted by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and served not only as a UN simulation, but also the culminating event for Model UN clubs across Texas. Frassati Catholic delegates were active throughout the assembly passing resolutions and serving as parliamentarians and committee chairs.
The Frassati Catholic track and field team competed at the TAPPS 5A District 7 Meet hosted at Fort Bend Christian Academy, April 10 - 11. Members of the team took home three gold medals at the event and five top four finishes overall. The team delivered many personal bests and four Frassati Catholic student athletes will advance to the TAPPS South Regional Track Meet on Thursday, April 25.
One of the many benefits of living near the nation’s fourth largest city is the easy access to a world-class hub of arts and culture. Recently, Frassati Catholic faculty Dr. Melisa Palermo took her AP Art History students on a field trip to the University of St. Thomas and the Museum of Fine Art, Houston. Their mission? To observe and interact with some of the most extraordinary art and architecture Houston has to offer.
Frassati Catholic World Languages students participated in the Houston Area Teachers of Foreign Languages (HATFL), sponsored Farrington Contest at Northbrook High School on Saturday, April 6. The Farrington Contest, named in honor of Curtis Farrington, an original founder and first president of HATFL, allows greater-Houston area high school students studying languages other than English to compete in various categories. Frassati Catholic was represented by twelve students in two world language categories: Spanish and French.
Last Friday, Frassati Catholic alumnus Jack Edwards ’17 joined his fellow musicians in the University of Notre Dame’s Totus Tuus Band for their biggest concert yet – opening for world-renowned Catholic Christian recording artist Matt Maher. Campus Ministry at Notre Dame had been looking for a big Christian artist to bring to campus and Matt Maher, a nine time GRAMMY nominee, prolific songwriter and touring musician, happened to be on tour and available for the performance. Edwards commented, “Booking Matt Maher was in itself a huge deal, but being asked to open for him was obviously the biggest thing our band had ever done.”
