Updates for March 30

Today is the third day of the Novena in honor of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, a Novena which will continue through Blessed Pier Giorgio's birthday, April 6. This Novena is a special opportunity to ask for the intercession of Blessed Pier Giorgio as we navigate the coronavirus situation and its effects on our community.

Today we share a very important update about the extension of our campus closure. On Sunday, March 29, the federal government announced the extension of social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 outbreak until April 30. To support the recommendations of public officials and healthcare professionals working to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Frassati Catholic will extend our campus closure through Friday, May 1. During the campus closure, we will continue remote learning, and all extracurricular activities will be canceled. Our administrative team will continue to assess the situation and provide regular updates on our plan to reopen campus on Monday, May 4.

We understand that the extension of our campus closure may be inconvenient and disappointing, but we hope that you will support our decisions, as they were made after extensive conversations, guided at all times by our commitment to protecting our students, families, faculty, and staff. In addition to this major update, we also wanted to communicate some additional information:

• While we understand that members of our community are facing uncertainty at this time, we trust in God's faithfulness as we plan for next school year. Re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 Academic Year is in full swing, and we're working to make the process as easy as possible. The re-enrollment process will be through SchoolAdmin and will need to be completed by April 6. Your prompt response will allow us to continue preparing for the coming school year.
• On our original calendar, we had scheduled Adoration to take place this week. We would like to continue to provide Adoration for our community by hosting a virtual Holy Hour this Friday, April 3, from 10am-2pm. We will have a live stream of Adoration in our Chapel available on the homepage of our website. Under the banner on the homepage, there will be a section with a live stream video from YouTube where we encourage students, families and community members to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. 
• On Friday, March 27, Pope Francis delivered a special Urbi et Orbi apostolic blessing to all the faithful of the world. After praying before the Icon of Our Lady and the miraculous Crucifix, the Holy Father exposed the Blessed Sacrament for adoration and imparted his Apostolic Blessing to all with the monstrance. With this blessing, he offers the opportunity for individuals to receive a plenary indulgence, and more information can be found in this document.
• Thank you for those of you who completed last Friday's survey. We are grateful for your feedback. It is tremendously valuable in helping us highlight our successes, look for areas of growth, and identify ways that we can continue to support our community mentally, spiritually, and through remote learning.
• Today our students published episode two of their Remote Learning Broadcasts. This episode includes more tips on learning and working remotely, general updates, a check-in with our Librarian, Mrs. Shayla Mullee, and a call for student recommendations on great books to read. You can watch each installment on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as the News section of our website.
• Our Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Bonini, and Campus Minister, Mrs. Valdez, will be offering Fellowship Hours for each grade-level through Google Hangout Meets. The first opportunity will be for our seniors tomorrow at 5pm, Tuesday, March 31. There will be prayer, checking-in and some tips on how to stay spiritually and mentally healthy during this time. They will be joined by Valerie Delgado, youth minister at Prince of Peace, who will show what she has been doing to keep busy and healthy during this time at home. Seniors can join using Google Hangout code: campusministry at 5pm tomorrow. We will communicate opportunities for the other grade-levels as they are scheduled. 
• Finally, a reminder that we have decided to waive semester exams for all students. Please make changes to your agendas and calendars as follows:

  • Seniors:  

    May 18/19	Regular days of instruction (A and B days as designated in the agenda)
    May 20	1pm - Locker cleanout
    	2pm - Commencement practice
    	3pm - Candle passing ceremony practice with the juniors
    May 21	No School
