Frassati Catholic High School vocalists competed at the Regional Solo and Ensemble event on Friday, Feb. 22 at Willow Meadows Church in Houston. The annual competition included entries for small ensembles and soloists from around the greater Houston region. Frassati Catholic was represented by four vocal soloists and the Advanced Choir, the first ensemble entry for the school. All four singers as well as the Advanced Choir earned superior ratings, the highest distinction awarded at the competition.
Frassati Catholic soloists included Luis Esparza ‘20, Mary Coleman ‘21, Katie Spartz ‘20 and Megan Abib ‘20. Choral director Dr. Lindsay Medina was thrilled with the performances throughout the day, and commented on Frassati Catholic’s first ever entry into the ensemble competition. “This is our first time participating in the ensemble portion of the contest, and for many singers, the first time they have ever performed in a musical competition. I am very proud of the professionalism and attention to detail of our Advanced Choir. They performed splendidly!” Frassati Catholic is dedicated to providing extraordinary opportunities for growth in the creative and performing arts, and Dr. Medina emphasized the hard work put in by her soloists. “I am proud of the dedication of our soloists. It takes great discipline to independently learn a piece of classical vocal repertoire. In the end, their discipline was awarded with superior scores in each of their categories.”
The TPSMEA State Solo and Ensemble competition will take place on April 5 – 6 at Willow Meadows Church in Houston.
