Frassati Catholic High School’s swim team competed at the TAPPS East (District 3) Regional Swim Meet hosted at the University of Houston Saturday, January 19. Frassati Catholic took home seven gold medals at the event and 29 medals overall. The girls team won the East Regional Division II championship, their first regional championship, a remarkable accomplishment after moving up to the Division II level just this season.
After the meet, Frassati Catholic coach Stephen Schmidt said “we have a one-of-a-kind team and I’m incredibly proud of these swimmers.” Of note, Junior Lauren Lacson earned four gold medals at the East Regionals in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Junior Genevieve Manning and Sophomore Mia Natoli each earned four medals and Junior Emma Dinh received three medals.
Qualifying for the State Championships were: Girls 200 medley relay and Girls 200 freestyle relay of Genevieve Manning, Lauren Lacson, Mia Natoli and Emma Dinh; Girls 400 freestyle relay of Sara Mora-Benitez, Paulina Padilla, Gabriella Borello and Anna Lackner; Boys 200 medley relay of Kevin Spartz, Matthew Guion, Andrew Pye and John Okruhlik; Boys’ 200 freestyle relay of Bryce Jones, John Okruhlik, Jonnathan Snaider and Kevin Spartz; Anna Lackner (500 freestyle), Emma Dinh (100 butterfly), Gabriella Borello (100 backstroke), Genevieve Manning (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle), Lauren Lacson (100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley) and Mia Natoli (100 butterfly).
