Frassati Catholic High School’s swim team competed at the TAPPS Division II State Championships hosted at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium, Thursday, Feb. 7. After a tremendous showing at the East Regional Championship Meet, Frassati Catholic swimming made their mark at State where the Girls team finished third overall. Frassati Catholic brought home medals in five events during the championship meet.
Highlights include a stellar showing from the relay team of Genevieve Manning, Lauren Lacson, Mia Natoli and Emma Dinh, who won gold in the Girls 200 medley relay and silver in the Girls 200 freestyle relay. Frassati Catholic also had strong individual performances from Lauren Lacson who won gold in the 200 individual medley and gold in the 100 breaststroke, and Genevieve Manning, earning silver in the 50 freestyle event.
After the meet, Frassati Catholic Coach Stephen Schmidt reflected on the growth of his team this season, “This group had an incredible year. We’ve been fortunate to have strong individual and group performances which really helped us as we moved to the Division II level. This season wasn’t without its obstacles; our Boys team overcame injury and inconsistency, but that adversity set them up to be a strong group next year. Both Boys relays made it to State in the top heat and we will build on that success next year. The Girls team will look to expand on their success, and they’re hungry to compete at the highest level and improve on a great season. It’s been an honor to coach this team. They built themselves up as a team, worked together and supported and pushed each other. We’re looking forward to another great season next year led by our rising senior swimmers.”
