On Monday, October 14, 38 students participated in a joint induction ceremony for the Frassati Catholic High School chapters of the National Honor Society (NHS) and Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (SHH). Both organizations are built on the pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character, qualities shared by our patron, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
The NHS is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
The SHH, also known as Spanish National Honor Society, is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The SHH was formally organized as the Spanish National Honor Society in 1953 and renamed to Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica in 1959. The mission is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.
Both the NHS and SHH chapters at Frassati Catholic work to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop the character of our students. Please join the Frassati Catholic community in congratulating the new members of NHS and SHH!
