Frassati Catholic High School’s track team travelled to Waco, TX for the TAPPS 3A State Championship May 4-5. Fifteen students placed in the top eight for at least one event at the regional championships, qualifying them for state. The track team returned home with three gold medals, two bronze medals, and twelfth place in the state for the boys’ combined efforts.
Senior Alex de la Maza earned gold medals for the 3200 and 1600m. Senior Sophia Biondi also earned two medals; she collected gold in the 200m and bronze in the 100m. Senior Marc O’Hara received the bronze medal in the 110m hurdles.
Qualifying for the State Championships were: Girls’ 4x400 relay of Lauren Reynolds, Denise Simon, Annie Abrams, and Sophia Biondi; Boys’ 4x400 relay of Mark Hill, JD Morgan, Carl Heinzler, and Cameron Gill; Jared Thome (300m hurdles), Mark O’Hara (110m and 300m hurdles), John Paul Bartsch (3200m), Mark Morrison (3200m), Alex de la Maza (3200m, 1600m), Marius Sanford (1600m), Alyssa Lopez (3200m, 1600m), Sophia Biondi (100m, 200m dash), Annie Abrams (400m dash).
