Frassati Catholic Alumnus Pablo Boada ’18 and the Christendom College Crusaders will compete for the National Small Schools Rugby Organization (NSCRO) 15s Rugby National Championship in Loudonville, NY, from April 26-28. The Crusaders are emerging contenders in the NSCRO 15s taking consecutive trips to the National Championships. They will face some of their stiffest competition to date in New York including No. 2 ranked Endicott College in the semifinal round with the winner taking on either St. John’s University or The Claremont Colleges in the April 28 Championship.
Pablo Boada is new to the sport, “I’d never played rugby before, but having played football and soccer the transition was smoother.” What Christendom coaches saw in Boada was a strong tackling technique and potential. “At Frassati, [Football] Coach Calvin LaFiton really helped me improve my tackling technique. So much so that my rugby coach gave me a spot on the team.” Boada saw time on the field as a frequent sub, and his tackling ability helped bolster the team on the defensive end. In a season that saw the Crusaders beat the likes of Duke University and Catholic University of America, Boada enjoyed great success on the team as a first-year player. “Our team is very competitive and we’ve had a really successful year. I definitely think that for me, playing sports at Frassati Catholic as those programs were being developed gave me a sense of perseverance that I draw on.”
The Crusaders will begin their march to the National Championship on April 26 taking on Endicott College, the Northeast Regional Champions. To support Pablo Boada and the Crusaders in their pursuit of the National Championship,
