On Saturday, January 11, Kiki Vorderbruggen '21 joined 24 other finalists at NRG Center for the finals of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Quick Draw Portrait competition. Participants were given one hour to complete a portrait of a live model which was then judged for top prizes. Vorderbruggen was selected as the second place finisher in the competition.
Vorderbruggen was selected as a finalist for the Quick Draw portrait competition from more than 1000 entrants. This was the second time she had been selected to participate in the competition - the first time coming in her freshman year when she was selected as an alternate. This time Vorderbruggen was focused on performing her best.
"Over the Christmas break I had a lot of help preparing for the competition from family and friends," said Vorderbruggen. "They would help me by posing for an hour or so while I sketched their portrait so I'd be ready for the format of the competition." Her hard work paid off - she was rewarded with second place and a cash prize.
Vorderbruggen's performance shows her tremendous talent, and highlights the flourishing Visual Arts program at Frassati Catholic. Congratulations to Kiki Vorderbruggen and this tremendous accomplishment!
