Last season, the Frassati Catholic Flag Football team was two games away from its goal of reaching the T*CAL championship game when it suffered its first loss of the season. This season, the team is intent on achieving a different outcome.
The team got off to a strong start, winning its first six games before falling to Beren on October 6. While the loss ended the team’s pursuit of an undefeated record, it made them even more motivated to make a playoff run to improve upon last season’s record.
“Our goal at the beginning of the year was always to just be better than we were last year,” said Head Coach Nick Isaac. “We were two games away from playing in the championship playoff game; this year our goal is to be playing in that game.”
Seniors Joseph O'Neill, Matthew Macora, J.T. Payne, Mauro Hernandez, J.P. Perez, and Robert Rice
The team’s seniors have been fundamental in creating a team culture that emphasizes a growth mindset and not getting bogged down in results or uncontrollables.
“One thing we have tried to do as coaches is to preach to the kids that it is not about who we play, it's about focusing on us regardless of who the opponent is,” said Isaac. “We have a lot of really good leaders on this team. Two in particular are our offensive and defensive captains. J.T. Payne (off.) and Mauro Hernandez (def.) have provided great leadership to not only their units but the entire team,” said Isaac. “All of our seniors have been a big part of our success this year. From J.T. and Mauro to Matthew Macora, Joseph O’Neill, Robert Rice, and J.P. Perez. They all have made big contributions to our team this year.”
The Falcons will look to attain their goal of playing in the T*CAL championship game when they begin the playoffs on October 13-14.
