The Frassati Falcons Boys basketball team wrapped up its season on Feb. 12 with a win over Strake Jesuit. The team, made up of freshmen and sophomores, finished with a record of 7-15 (5-7 against sub-varsity teams), remaining competitive throughout the season while playing a number of close games.
“We made great improvements from the beginning to the end of the season,” said Falcons Head Coach, Chris Meredith. “It was apparent not only in the scores of each game, but in the way we played, the better understanding they had for what to do, and the team chemistry.”
The season was highlighted by the program’s first win over a varsity opponent (Lifestyle Christian) and an overtime win away at Strake Jesuit.
“The win in overtime at Strake Jesuit was a big game because we made the plays that we had to in order to win,” said Meredith. “We found ourselves trailing by six with less than two minutes to go, but kept our composure and executed down the stretch.”
Although Falcons struggled at times with consistency during some parts of the season, the team’s hard work led to significant improvement. “Even though our performances in some games were better than others,” said Meredith, “as a whole, it was a huge improvement from last year.”
The positive attitude of the players contributed to the team’s progress as the season went on. “They want to learn, they want to get better, and they listen,” said Meredith. “They have a lot of heart, are determined, are hard workers, and have a positive attitude.”
Next season, the team plans to play a 2A district schedule as a member of TAPPS. “It will be exciting to see how much we improve again next year with the addition of a junior class,” said Meredith. “I expect to see another big step forward next season.”
