Fine Arts Department Chair Dr. Lindsay Medina
authored a featured article in the February edition of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Southwestern Musician Magazine. The magazine is distributed to the more than 11,000 school music educator members of the TMEA, one of the largest organizations of its kind in the United States. Dr. Medina's article is a resource for choral directors, helping them cultivate undeveloped and underdeveloped vocalists in their choirs. Dr. Medina is an expert in vocal pedagogy, having received her Doctor of Music degree from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
At Frassati Catholic, our vocalists are transformed by the extraordinary coaching of Dr. Medina. Throughout her career she has dedicated her talents to developing vocalists. "Most of my research has focused on the young singer," explained Dr. Medina. "I was fortunate to have a great voice teacher as a young student and they gave me a lot of personal attention. That's what I hope to do for all our students."
What distinguishes Dr. Medina as an educator is not only her outstanding musicianship, but also her detailed knowledge of the physiology of the human voice. This combination is unique, and year after year, Frassati Catholic vocalists benefit from Dr. Medina's passion for education. "I see the struggles a lot of young singers go through. It's really common and very easy to fix with the right practice and instruction," says Dr. Medina. "I want our singers to be confident and proud of the voice God gave them so they can serve the community. Whether they're singing on stage, in church, or in the car, I want these singers to be happy."
