This past Saturday, the boys varsity runners turned in their best team performance of the season by taking first place in the St. John's Ramble Cross Country Meet.
There were 14 teams in the event which included some of the toughest competition in the Houston area. The Falcons were led by individual medalists Alex De la Maza '18 (3rd) and Cullen Miller '18 (7th). They were followed across the finish line by Cameron Gill '18 (20th), John Paul Bartsch '19 (34th) and Mark Morrison '20 (48th) - each turning in their best times of the season. There were 122 finishers in the event.
Freshman Alyssa Lopez ran away from the field of 55 in the girl's junior varsity race taking the gold medal by a margin of almost 20 seconds over her nearest competitor. Gianna Airola '19 achieved an individual award for her 12th place finish.
"I am so proud of our entire team today as almost every individual either set a personal or seasonal best time," said Coach Ralph Maddalena. "It was gratifying to see all the hard work the team has put in pay off against some very tough competition. With Fall weather finally arriving, hopefully, everyone will continue to step it up in practice and remain healthy as we head to the State Championships later this month."
