Members of the Frassati Catholic High School Chorus were recently selected by the Texas Private School Music Education Association (TPSMEA) judges to participate in the All-State, Region, and Treble Choirs. Joshua Elegado (Class of 2018) was selected to perform as part of the All-State and Region Choirs, while Catherine Markus (Class of 2017) was selected to perform as part of the All-Region Treble Choir. On January 15-16, Joshua and Catherine worked with conductors Deborah Tidwell and Paula Spencer, as well as other TPSMEA conductors and teachers, in a clinic that culminated with a concert at the Strake Jesuit Parsley Center.
"The TPSMEA clinic and concert provide an opportunity for the students to sing difficult, quality music with other talented students. They work with accomplished students from all over the state of Texas, and they return to the Frassati Catholic rehearsal room with a renewed passion. They are eager to lead and share what they learned with other students," said Dr. Lindsay Medina, director of admissions and fine arts.
In addition to the students' success at TPSMEA, the Frassati Catholic Chorus presented a Lessons and Carols program at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church and St. Dominic's Village. They also provided prelude music and led the congregational singing during Christmas Eve Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with Bishop Sheltz presiding.
"Our chorus program has experienced tremendous growth this year, and we will continue to build on that growth by performing numerous times each semester," said Medina.
The program will continue to grow with the completion of the school's gymnasium/fine arts building, which will include space devoted to the fine arts.
The chorus sings a variety of repertoire, ranging from classical to contemporary, in several languages. They are currently preparing for the Spring Fine Arts Performance, which takes place on April 26 at 7:00 p.m.
