On Tuesday, Feb. 20, the Frassati Falcons Boys Basketball team advanced to the TAPPS State Quarterfinals, defeating St. Gerard Catholic High School from San Antonio, TX 68-60 in the Round of 16 in the State Tournament.
The Falcons handed the Royals -- who held an impressive 25-2 record heading into the game -- their only loss at home all season.
Tenacious defense and balanced scoring proved to be the difference for the Falcons. J.D. Morgan '19 and Tyler Prihoda '20 both played stellar defense, limiting the threat of the two top scorers of the Royals. Grant Guidry '20 had 24 points to lead the Falcons and Matt Jannes '20 had 21.
"This was a huge win for the program since we are now only one win away from going to State," said Head Coach Chris Meredith. "It was a tough environment to play in, and our team responded. We are playing our best basketball of the year right now, and have really come together as a team."
The TAPPS Regional Finals will be played against Veritas Academy from Austin, TX at Robinson High School in Waco, TX on Thursday, March 1. Tipoff will be at 9 a.m.
