BOYS BASKETBALL
The Frassati Catholic Boys Basketball team, led by Coach Chris Meredith, will play a full Varsity distrcit schedule this season for the first time.
“Last year, we played mostly JV teams and were focused on individual skill development,” said Meredith. “This year we will play primarily against Varsity teams. Now that we have a junior class, we will look to be more competitive since we will be closer in age to our opponents.”
The Falcons will play a TAPPS 2A Varsity district schedule this season. The team kicked off the season with a win last week at Calvary Baptist Academy, and will open its district schedule on Dec. 8 against Covent Christian Academy.
“We are looking forward to playing a full district schedule and competing in games that have playoff spots at stake,” said Meredith. “We are also excited to play our first games in the new gym which is scheduled to be completed sometime in January.”
The 54,000-square-foot gymnasium/fine arts building will feature a 17,000-square-foot gymnasium with two volleyball/basketball courts where games or practices can be held simultaneously. The space also can be converted into a competition gym with seating for up to 1,000 fans.
Both the boys and girls basketball teams currently practice and play games at Legends Sports Complex in The Woodlands, but will begin playing home games on the school’s campus in mid-January.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Falcons Girls Basketball team has had a strong start to its season, winning its first three games. Last season, the team had a 17-8 overall record. This season, the team is playing a Varsity district schedule in TAPPS for the first time.
“We want to build on the momentum we finished with last year,” said Coach Nick Isaac. “We played really good basketball our last 7-8 games and want to continue that going in to this season.”
While the team’s competition has changed this season with varsity competition, its goals have not.
“Our goals will stay the same as last year,” said Isaac. “We will never talk about wins and losses; rather, we will focus on getting better every day. We want to try to get at least 1% better every time we take the court, both individually and as a team.”
Next up for the Falcons is Calvary Baptist on Friday, Nov. 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Lifestyle Christian. The team will open its district schedule against Covenant Christian on Dec. 8.

SOCCER
The Falcons Soccer team enters its first year as a full team, and will play a mix of varsity and JV teams this season. Next season, the team will enter TAPPS as a varsity team in Division III, District 5.
“Our focus this season is on fulfilling our potential as a team,” said Coach Kyle Smith. “Our goal is to improve a little bit every day, both technically as individuals and tactically as a team.”
The soccer season runs from mid-October to early February. After playing small-sided games last season, this is the first year the Falcons will play full 11v11 matches.
“Last season we had a small roster, and it’s exciting to have so much involvement from the students this season,” said Smith. “We’re looking forward to challenging ourselves against some very good teams on our schedule this season, especially the Strake Jesuit JV tournament in January which will be a great test for us.”
The Falcons will play St. Pius X JV on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 4:00 p.m. at the Frassati Catholic fields.

SWIMMING
The Falcons Swim team had its season opener this past Saturday (Nov. 7) at the “Battle for the Crown” meet.
“All our swimmers improved their times and several of them scored and placed in the top 12,” said Coach Stephen Schmidt.
The swimming program has continued to grow as the team has added additional members this year, with a mix of freshman through junior students. The team currently trains at Swim Streamline at Northhampton in Spring.
“The biggest change this season will be really incorporating the swimming program into the Frassati Catholic culture,” said Schmidt. “Swimming is not just an individual sport, it really is a team effort. Most of our swimmers are freshmen this year, with some sophomores and juniors who will really help guide the team.”
The team will look to build on last year’s success – when three swimmers qualified for the TAPPS State Championship Meet – by expanding its schedule this season.
“We are very excited about participating in more meets this year all around Houston, and getting out into the larger swimming community in the Houston area,” said Schmidt.
