Varsity Volleyball wins first district game

The Falcons volleyball team recorded the program’s first-ever varsity district win yesterday, defeating Covenant Christian Academy.

After a slow start, the Falcons rallied to win three games in a row to close out the match. “I was so proud of the way the girls bounced back after losing the first game,” said Falcons head coach, Katie Hoff. “We all knew that we could play better than how we started. We made some adjustments, mostly on defense, and really picked up our level of play for the next three games to pull out the win. It was a true team effort.”

Key to the Falcons win was a strong defensive performance. “Our defense was fantastic last night, and it made a huge difference,” said Hoff. “That old saying that "defense wins championships" is definitely true. We did some good, tough defense drills last Monday to prepare for yesterday's game, and we'll continue more with those moving forward.”

The team, made up of freshmen through juniors, is the first in the school’s history to compete in TAPPS at the varsity district level. After a tough non-district schedule to begin the year, Hoff is confident that the tests early on have allowed the team to gain valuable experience: “I think our tough preseason matches have prepared us well for our district season, and I expect to see the results of our hard work in the coming weeks.”

Next up for the Falcons is an away match at Providence Classical School on Thursday, Sept. 17.
