The Frassati Catholic Track and Field Team had four competitors at the TAPPS 5A South Regional Track Meet at Bastrop Memorial Stadium in Cedar Creek on Thursday, April 25. All four athletes performed well, bringing home three medals from the event. Izabella Vallejo and Zamari Bruce will advance to finish their season at the State Championships in Waco.
Junior Izabella Vallejo won gold in the 3200M and took silver in the 800M. Freshman Zamari Bruce won bronze in the 110M hurdles. Junior Alyssa Lopez came in sixth in the 300M hurdles and Annie Abrams finished sixth in the 400M.
“April 25th's regional track meet at Bastrop Memorial Stadium was a day of tough competition, great weather, and perfect running conditions,” said head coach Mark Pertuso. “The four athletes competed exceptionally well in their events and were great representatives of Frassati Catholic. We are very proud of all that our athletes accomplished as well as their dedication and effort throughout the season and at regionals.”
“Moving up to 5A has certainly been a challenge for our track and field athletes, but they have met the challenge ‘head on’, held their own against tough competitors from the south region, and proved their capabilities. I am very pleased with all that our athletes have accomplished.”
The TAPPS 5A State Championship Track Meet will be held at Panther Stadium in Waco on May 3 -4.
