Swimmers qualify for State Championships in San Antonio

The Frassati Catholic Swim Team will send eight swimmers to San Antonio on February 12 for the TAPPS State Championships after strong performances at the Eastern Regionals held at the University of Houston Natatorium. The Girls 200 Relay team – composed of Mia Vassilakis, Class of 2019; Regan Nicholson, Class of 2017; Sara Mora Benitez, Class of 2019; and Vanessa Weitzman, Class of 2018 – placed second at the Regional Meet, securing the second swim medal in the program’s history. Elizabeth Geiger, Class of 2018, placed fourth in the 200 Free and fourth in the 100 Breaststroke, and Nicholas Young, Class of 2018, placed fourth in the 200 IM and the 100 Free.

“It has been a fantastic pleasure to watch the team grow since the beginning of the year, said Coach Stephen Schmidt. “Many swimmers did not have much experience, but are now competing at a high level. Everyone on the team has set personal records this year - which is the greatest accomplishment of all for a swimmer.”

Overall, two relay teams and five individuals qualified for the State Meet. The team will swim at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
