The Frassati Catholic Swim Team posted a number of strong performances at the TAPPS State Championships on Thursday, February 7 at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium outside of Dallas, TX.
The girls team placed 6th overall, and the boys team placed 5th, both record finishes at the State Championships for both programs. The girls 200 Free Relay composed of Genevieve Manning '20, Elizabeth Geiger '18, Mia Natoli '21, and Emma Dinh '20 placed 3rd overall, the first relay to medal in school/team history. Several best times were achieved by swimmers as well.
Individually, Nicholas Young '18 placed 2nd in the Boys 50 Free, the program's first silver medal. Manning placed 3rd in the Girls 50 Free.
"This season started off unbelievably strong - this year the team continued to grow and developed a solid committed core," said Head Coach Stephen Schmidt. "They worked hard, and we saw fantastic results right away in October and November and tested ourselves against some good competition. The winter was tough and cold this year, and we lost some time, but really picked up steam to finish the season well in January and the results speak for themselves: Boys and Girls placed top 3 overall teams at Regionals, we sent 13 swimmers to state, 3 medals, our first silver medal and our first relay to medal in state, the Girls 200 Free. We are losing some Seniors this year who have really set the bar high with their achievements the past 4 years, and they will be truly missed, but we are also very excited about the immediate success and the potential of this year's Freshman class as well."
