Last Tuesday, April 29, six Frassati Catholic students were recognized for their exceptional entries in the University of St. Thomas Archdiocesan Essay Contest. In 59 schools across the Archdiocese, principals selected up to six students to submit essays on critical topics for young Catholics, including faith leadership, service and current events. Of the six Frassati Catholic entrants, five placed in the top three overall including two first place finishes, two second place finishes, one third place finish, and one recognition. We are incredibly proud of our student participants and their extraordinary efforts in the contest.
Each grade level was represented by Frassati Catholic students in the contest. Freshmen Ellie Fincher and Elizabeth Rudolph both placed highly, with Fincher receiving the first place award and Rudolph receiving second place. Sophomore Janelle Padilla received recognition for her entry and Junior Mallory Hoskins was awarded third place. Seniors Patrick Haggerty and Edenmarie Coon finished in the top-two, with Patrick Haggerty receiving first place and Edenmarie Coon receiving second place.
The ceremony included an Awards Day Eucharistic Celebration and Ceremony with celebrant Bishop George Sheltz. For over 20 years, the UST-Archdiocesan Essay Contest has encouraged thousands of Catholic school students in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to think about common concerns and questions while recognizing the importance of writing. Congratulations to all our student participants!
