Students Recognized at 2019 Summit Awards

Man and Woman  of the Beatitudes Award Recipients Clare Finney and Blake Perry.

On Monday, May 13, the Frassati Catholic Community came together to acknowledge excellence in academics, athletics, and fine arts at the sixth annual Verso L’alto Summit Awards Ceremony. In addition to awards for these achievements among the whole student body, particular awards are given to members of the graduating class to recognize their achievements over their time at Frassati Catholic. These recognitions include announcing the Class of 2019 Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and conferring the Man and Woman of the Beatitudes, Virtuous Athlete, and Pier Giorgio Service awards.

The Man and Woman of the Beatitudes awards are the highest honors Frassati Catholic confers on a student. These awards are given to the male and female who most exemplify the five characteristics of the school’s patron, Pier Giorgio Frassati: Zealous Student, Virtuous Athlete, True Friend, Servant of the Poor, and Witness to Holiness. This year Clare Finney and Blake Perry have received this high honor.
        
Salutatorian Ben McKeig and Valedictorian Blake Perry.

The Valedictorian and the Salutatorian for the 2019 graduating class are, respectively: Blake Perry and Ben McKeig.  Perry has been an active altar server, lector, and sacristan at the all school liturgies, a founding member of the baseball team, the creator and first editor of La Stampa, the Frassati Catholic school newspaper, served as a member of the Student Leadership Team, a Student Ambassador, was president of NHS, and a leader for the last two years for the city of Pollone. McKeig  served the school on the Student Leadership Team and as a Student Ambassador.  He was a member of both the football and swim teams and a member of NHS.  He has spent countless hours volunteering with Conquest, a Catholic youth ministry program for boys, and as an assistant scout master with the Boy Scouts of America.  In the fall, he was named a National Merit Commended Scholar.   
   

Pier Giorgio Service Award Recipients Mariajose Celis and Matthew Guion.

The Pier Giorgio Service award is given to a male and female senior who go beyond the school’s service requirements and live an attitude of service as a way of life. The recipients of this award for the Class of 2019 are Mariajose Celis and Matthew Guion.
 

Virtuous Athlete Award Recipients Angela Webb and JD Morgan.

The Virtuous Athlete awards are given to a male and female senior who have excelled in athletics, shown outstanding work ethic and sportsmanship, and displayed leadership. The Virtuous Athletes for 2019 are Angela Webb and JD Morgan.
 
At the awards ceremony Principal Sister John Paul Myers O.P. reminded the community that “Just in our sixth year, we are far from being finished with the task of founding this school. I am grateful that while it can at times be difficult, our students have willingly accepted their role as builders – ‘builders of a culture in keeping with the dignity of the human person, destined to share in God’s own divine life.’”
