A group of Frassati Catholic students, many wearing "Frassati for Life" shirts, joined with thousands of marchers at the Texas Rally for Life in Austin on Saturday, Jan. 28 in support of the sanctity of life. This is the third year that students have traveled to Austin for the rally.
"Our Culture of Life Club sponsors this yearly pilgrimage to the Rally for Life in Austin in order to witness and to pray," said Sister John Paul, O.P., principal. She outlined several reasons why a group from Frassati Catholic felt it was important to make the more than two-hour drive to Austin to participate in the rally.
"First, our students are witnessing to the dignity of the human person. In this case, we are witnessing to the dignity of the most vulnerable of human persons. Second, this is truly a pilgrimage of prayer for the conversion of heart of all who are contemplating an abortion or who participate in any way in the performance of abortions. Third, we want to pray for all healing for all women who have had an abortion and for all people who are in any way connected to the abortion industry."
The day included a Pro-Life Mass and a rally on the South Steps of the Capitol Building. This year at the rally, youth showed up in record numbers, signaling the desire of many young men and women to create a culture that is pro-life.
"We hope the students will gain a sense of hope," said Sister John Paul. "It is encouraging to see so many people participating in this rally. The March for Life in D.C. and other marches or rallies around the country, after 44 years, continue to grow, not shrink. And the participants are getting younger, not older. Our young people can experience the hope that we all have they this is the generation that will end legalized abortion in our country."
Inspired by the witness of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, many Frassati Catholic students felt compelled to stand for life and for the dignity of the human person.
"Pier Giorgio Frassati lived in Italy during politically tumultuous times which culminated in the Fascists taking over the country," said Sister John Paul. "Pier Giorgio understood the importance of being politically active and bringing one’s faith to the public forum. Though there was no pro-life movement in the 1920s, Pier Giorgio witnessed to the dignity of each human person through his service to the poor, sick, and marginalized of Turin. Upon his death, it came to light that Pier Giorgio helped sustain several hundred people supplying them with money, food, medicine and his company. Our students are walking in Pier Giorgio’s footsteps whenever they witness to the goodness and dignity of the human person."
