Six Frassati Catholic students recently were recognized as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest. Andrea Peimbert '19 and Emma Dinh '20 received blue first place ribbons; Aneise Jameson '19, Adam Sucy '20, Kiki Vorderbruggen '21, and Juan Pablo Esparza '20 received red second place ribbons for their works.
Contestants do not have to be enrolled in an art class, but must be attending a school registered with the Show's School Art Program. Invitations to participate in the School Art Program are extended on an annual basis at the sole discretion of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™. Participation is limited to schools in approved public independent school districts and approved private schools. Frassati Catholic is in its first year as an approved private school.
Currently, the School Art Program supports 135 different school districts, including private and parochial schools, in the Houston area. Last year, the Rodeo received more than 200,000 entries.
Vorderbruggen also was selected to participate in the Quick Draw Contest as an alternate in February. The Quick Draw Contest is a competition against the clock. The contestants each are given an 11-inch-by-14-inch piece of paper to sketch their masterpiece in 50 minutes. Only 52 high school students throughout the state are selected to participate.
"I am extremely proud of our students who put in many long hours after school to represent Frassati for the first time-in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo school art contest," said Fine Arts Instructor Linda Harvard. "The students competed against students from high schools across the state earning first and second place ribbons. We are excited about the growth of the art program and look forward to competing again next year!"
