Sophomores Kick Off Service With First Pier Giorgio Day of 2019-2020

On Wednesday, September 11, our sophomores participated in the first Pier Giorgio Day of the 2019-2020 school year. Pier Giorgio Day happens once each quarter, and it is an outgrowth of the culture of service at Frassati Catholic, tying us back to our Patron. During Pier Giorgio Days our sophomores travel to four different organizations in the community over the course of the year - visiting a new site each quarter. This Pier Giorgio Day was an exciting moment for our sophomores as it was their first service activity outside of Frassati Catholic. 

Frassati Catholic has established ongoing relationships with local organizations dedicated to serving the poor and vulnerable members of society: Mercy House Global, the Pregnancy Assistance Center North (PACN), Casa Juan Diego, and Reach Unlimited. Each organization serves a unique need, allowing our students to experience a wide range of service activities.

At Mercy House Global our students help package gift items, the proceeds of which go to empowing women and mothers in poverty around the world. The volunteers at PACN engaged in a wide variety of projects, from folding baby clothes to stocking shelves, freeing up PACN staff to do the important work of speaking with expectant mothers. The students visiting Casa Juan Diego took time to clean the grounds and create hygene kits for immigrants and refugees seeking support from the center. Finally, at Reach Unlimited, students visited with adults with special needs, bringing joy and fun to their afternoon.

We are so proud of our Sophomore class as they begin to expand their circle of service through the Pier Giorgio Service Program. By imitating our patron and his great capacity to see Christ in the faces of the poor, our students can begin to become God's instruments of peace in the world while learning the personal joy that comes from a life of self-giving.
