Frassati Catholic senior, Catherine Markus, was named to the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) All-State Choir after being selected from among 300 recordings made by high school altos across the state of Texas.
Markus first qualified for the All-Region Concert and Clinic along with Amanda Heinzler '18 and Joshua Elegado '18. The concert will be conducted by Thomas Jaber, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Vocal Coaching at the Shepherd School of Music, and will be held at St. Agnes Academy on January 13-14, 2017.
A few weeks later, Markus will join the other top singers across all regions of Texas for the All-State Concert and Clinic. From Jan. 26-28, she will rehearse and perform at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, TX under Dr. Betsy Cook Weber, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.
"The Female Vocal categories of the TPSMEA All-State Auditions and remarkably competitive," said choral director Dr. Lindsay Medina. "Catherine's recognition as an All-Region singer during the 2015-2016 Academic Year, and as an All-Region and All-State singer during the 2016-2017 Academic Year speaks of her extraordinary dedication and growth as an artist. Her musicality, nuance, and attention to detail make are an outstanding performer. We are thrilled to see one of our founding students recognized by this outstanding organization."
Markus, Heinzler, and Elegado will be performing as part of the Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols on Thursday, December 1 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tomball, and Wednesday, December 7 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Community. Both performances begin at 7:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that dates to the late 19th century. In this service, students will present Scripture lessons which recounted the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News.
