On Saturday, February 17, Kiki Vorderbruggen '21 participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Quick Draw Contest at NRG Center, placing fourth overall in the Portrait Class.
The Quick Draw Contest is a competition against the clock. The contestants each are given an 11-inch-by-14-inch piece of paper to sketch their masterpiece in 50 minutes. Only 52 high school students throughout the state are selected to participate, and of those, only three were freshmen.
Vorderbruggen's drawing for the quick draw contest will be on display at the rodeo in the Hayloft Gallery along with the other winning entries. In addition to winning $100, she also received a certificate for a free art class at the Glassel Junior School through the Museum of Fine Arts. Glassel is an art school for young people ages 3 to 18, devoted to nurturing creativity and dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the arts and an awareness of the world.
