Frassati Catholic Golfers competed at the TAPPS 5A State Championships on April 29-30. The golf team was represented by Irma Briz, Anna Claire Fincher, Ellie Fincher, Morgan Martinez and Katie Spartz of the girls team and Ethan Long from the boys team. The girls team finished third place overall, with Anna Claire Fincher finishing second individually and Ellie Fincher finishing fifth. The third place finish marks a tremendous accomplishment for the team, which started the season with a move from 3A to 5A level play.
The tournament started off hot with a strong first day of play for the girls team. At the end of day one, Frassati Catholic was leading all teams and had a solid position going into day two. On day two rain and thunderstorms were forecast, and the TAPPS organization was keeping an eye on the weather conditions. Thankfully, the conditions held and tournament participants were able to complete their rounds, avoiding an early end to championship play.
Frassati Catholic Golf progressed throughout the season. Both boys and girls teams displayed grit and determination, and strong team and individual play led to much success. “This was a special year for Frassati golf,” said Athletic Director, Chris Meredith. “Both teams showed a lot of confidence after making the leap to 5A play, and I think the results reflect their progression throughout the year. We’ll be sad to lose some great senior leaders but look forward to a strong returning core next season.”
