Grace Carroll, class of 2017, Patrick Haggerty, class of 2019, Catherine Markus, class of 2017, and Lauren Stowe, Class of 2018, were recognized at a special Mass and Awards Ceremony celebrated by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston on Monday, January 11. The students were honored for their essays as part of the 12th annual University of St. Thomas/Archdiocesan Essay Contest. Haggerty, Stowe, and Markus all received honorable mention for their work. Carroll was awarded second place out of 405 essays submitted by juniors. Thousands of students from archdiocesan Catholic schools—third-graders through high school seniors—wrote essays for the contest.
