The Falcons Boys and Girls Cross Country teams continued to perform at a high level last Saturday at the 6th Annual Faith West Hills Cross Country Race in Katy, TX.
The Boys Varsity team was led by Alex de la Maza who took first place by a margin of 50 meters over his nearest challenger. Cameron Gill, John Paul Bartsch, Marius Sanford, and Carl Heinzler contributed to a 3rd place team award out of 12 teams.
In the Girls Varsity race Alyssa Lopez, Gianna Airola, and Denise Simon all showed significant improvements as each ran their fastest time of the season over the 3,200 meter course.
The JV Boys also had their best showing of the year and were led by Lucas Rivera who took home an award for his 16th place finish in a field of 97 competitors.
"I am delighted to see that all the kids have stepped it up and are showing the competitiveness and toughness we expect," said Head Coach Ralph Maddalena. "The meet at Faith West Hills was extremely satisfying as the all of the girls, and the younger boys, each made significant leaps in their race performances. Alex continues to lead the team and is having an amazing season — he has earned first place in all but 2 of his races this year. We have been struggling through some illnesses and injuries on both the girls and boys squads over the past several weeks. I am praying that our team will begin to return to full health as we head into our last race of the season next weekend. Our focus will then be on the State Championships in Waco at the end of the month."
The boys and girls will race again this weekend (10/14) at the St. John's Maverick Ramble.
