Cardinal DiNardo blesses new Student Life Building

Frassati Catholic High School students, faculty, staff, parents, benefactors and board members gathered Monday morning, May 2, for a special blessing and Mass celebrated by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston-Houston, marking the official opening of the school’s new Student Life Building.
 
“As a school committed to the formation of the whole person, it is important that we open the Student Life Building which provides the space for the growth of both our fine arts and athletics programs,” said the school’s Principal, Sister John Paul, O.P.
 
Frassati Catholic High School was established in 2013 thanks to the support of more than 1,000 benefactors who saw the need for a Catholic high school on the north side of Houston. The school will welcome more than 70 new freshmen for the 2016-17 academic year, its largest-ever class. To accommodate this growth, the campus is also expanding. The construction of the Student Life Building is part of Phase 1B of the school’s Master Plan, and is another step toward realizing the school’s vision to support a campus of 800 – 1,000 students.
 
The 54,000-square-foot building features a 17,000-square-foot gymnasium with two volleyball/basketball courts where games or practices can be held simultaneously. The space also can be converted into a competition gym with seating for up to 1,000 fans. The facility features an assembly hall that will seat 400-600 and be used for fine arts performances and student assemblies, and fine arts space that is dedicated to the performing arts and the visual arts. Locker rooms, training and weight rooms, a team meeting room, coaches’ offices, and a concession stand are also included.
 
“The blessing of our new Student Life Building demonstrates the dedication and support of hundreds of benefactors who believe in the importance of Catholic education,” said Sister John Paul. “It is an important step forward for the growth of Frassati Catholic High School as we seek to provide an education that prepares our graduates to be well-rounded moral, intellectual, and civic leaders who will walk in the footsteps of our patron, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.”
