The Falcons boys and girls basketball teams both defeated Oaks Adventist Christian School on Tuesday, January 19, securing important wins leading into the second round of district play.
The boys won 66-64 to improve to 9-8 on the season while logging their highest point total in a game this season.
“In the game against the Oaks we showed great resilience and poise in the final quarter of the game,” said Coach Chris Meredith. “I think that is an area where we are starting to see improvement. We are showing signs of being able to not only compete, but to execute what needs to be done in order to come away with a win in a close game.”
The boys will open the second round of district play at home (Legends Sports Complex) on Thursday (Jan. 21) against Covenant Christian. The Falcons played all of their first round district games away, and now will close out the season with a stretch of district games at home. “It will be exciting to play everyone in district again to see if we can improve on our previous results by applying what we have learned from the first round of games,” said Meredith.
The girls, meanwhile, used an effective full court press to defeat the Tigers 70-19, improving to 11-7 on the season. The team forced 30 turnovers and scored almost half of its points from turnovers created from its full-court press.
“Our full-court press was very effective,” said Coach Nick Isaac. “We came out very aggressive on both ends of the court and we got a lot of easy baskets from our press.”
The girls also will enter the second round of district play this week, first facing off against Covenant Christian.
