On May 25, 2018 Frassati Catholic High School celebrated their second annual Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. At ten a.m. the school community gathered to pray with celebrant Daniel Cardinal diNardo in gratitude for the Class of 2018 and for their continued blessings and success. The Commencement exercises were held in the evening on campus. Conferring diplomas were Mr. Scott Broussard, President of the Board of Trustees and Sister John Paul, O.P., Principal. Presenting the graduates were: Sister Anna Laura, O.P., Dr. Lindsay Medina, Mr. Chris Meredith, Mr. Mark Pertuso, and Mrs. Alissa Reynolds.
Frassati Catholic’s Class of 2018 includes 45 members. Graduates have been accepted to 57 colleges and universities around the country and abroad, including 16 Catholic schools, 27 in-state schools, 29 out of state schools, and one in Europe. They have been awarded over three million dollars in scholarship money. The Class of 2018 includes 25 National Honor Society members, two National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholars, and an NCEA Virtues, Valor, and Vision Award winner.
At the Baccalaureate Mass, the Man and Woman of the Beatitudes, Mark Hill and Isabella Storemski, gave speeches in which they reflected on the gift of Pier Giorgio Frassati as a zealous student, virtuous athlete, servant of the poor, faithful friend, and witness to holiness. Storemski reminded the graduates that, “We know what it takes to be happy; now we have to be brave and do it!” Hill’s refrain was to, “Aim high, Falcons,” because, “when you aim high, you achieve greatness.” At Commencement, Salutatorian Matthew Witkowski said that by, “growing in virtue and knowledge, we grow into the people God made us to be,” and reflected on the particular virtues of diligence and gratitude. Valedictorian Marc O’Hara also expressed gratitude, and emphasized his class’s opportunity as founders within the school. O’Hara said, “being a founder is synonymous with being a servant-leader,” and that “leading with humility” was one of Pier Giorgio Frassati’s many virtues proposed for imitation by his class that now prepares them for future success.
