    On the final day of Spirit Week, Supreme Spirit Saturday, our students attended the Spirit Dance which concluded a week full of competitions and events. There were categories for overall attendance and dance skills. Additionally, we received the results of the Pinto Bean and Penny Wars. In the end, Florence emerged as the Champion of Spirit Week 2019.

    The time finally came. Thrill of Victory Thursday and the House Olympics! It was indeed thrilling, with high-level competition across the board. Students showed their skills with their City cheers, games including dodgeball, kanjam, bean bag toss, ultimate frisbee, and much more. At the end of the day Rome still retained first place, but Florence wore down their lead to just 6 points.

    Day 3 of Spirit week was all about showing off the finest in western wear. The Houses competed in a costume contest with categories for overall participation and best individual costumes. There was additional time to prepare for the remaining House competitions in Spirit Week, and some last minute adjustments to the House flags before they were judged in the afternoon. For the third day in a row, Rome maintained the lead.

    Quite an amazing display of talent during Day 2 of Spirit Week, Texas-Sized Talent Tuesday. The talent show was full of incredible acts including singers, dance, a comedian, Shakespearean theater, magic, and martial arts. During lunch, there was an inter-House game of Human Scrabble. After all was said and done, Rome maintains its place atop the standings.

There were some fantastic costumes, and the competitions got underway with the paper airplane challenge, card stacking, costume competition, and riddle packet.     Our principal, Sister John Paul, O.P., of Frassati Catholic High School announced today that Anna Claire Fincher and Mark Morrison have been named Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

    On Wednesday, September 11, our sophomores participated in the first Pier Giorgio Day of the 2019-2020 school year. Pier Giorgio Day happens once each quarter, and it is an outgrowth of the culture of service at Frassati Catholic, tying us back to our Patron. During Pier Giorgio Days our sophomores travel to four different organizations in the community over the course of the year - visiting a new site each quarter. This Pier Giorgio Day was an exciting moment for our sophomores as it was their first service activity outside of Frassati Catholic.

    On Monday, September 9, the Frassati Catholic community welcomed renowned author and psychotherapist Tom Kersting to campus. Kersting is the author of the acclaimed book "Disconnected: Reconnecting Our Digitally Distracted Kids," a focus of a parent book study that was offered last year. During his hour and a half talk with students, Kersting presented research and insights on the effects of technology on our brains and behaviors.

The Varsity Volleyball team is 14-2 on the season, the Cross Country team ran in the Incarnate Word Academy Invitational last weekend and will have their first district meet this Saturday at The Woodlands Christian Academy, and Varsity Football has been gearing up for their August 30 opener against the John Cooper School with two scrimmages.     This summer Gabriella Borrello '20 and Morgan Martinez '20 were chosen for a three-week workshop in Italy studying the works of William Shakespeare. They were participants in the University of Dallas' "Shakespeare in Italy" program, a selective summer workshop where participants spend three weeks reading selections from Shakespeare's sequence of sonnets and three complete plays in detail: Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of the Shrew. Through the program they had the opportunity to visit Rome, Venice, and Padua.

    “From a young age I’ve always been a creative type,” says Jared Thome ’18, a rising sophomore studying architecture at Texas A&M University. “I’m continually interested in making things and now it’s something I get to do every day.” In his first year of study at Texas A&M, Thome was selected to join the exclusive Architecture Honors College and is now wrapping up a newly created summer internship where he spends his time helping two Texas A&M professors develop a college textbook on architecture.
